The Hunter Torn Apart by His Own Hounds
Actaeon is a skilled young hunter, grandson of Cadmus. In the best-known version, from Ovid, he wanders into a grove by pure accident and comes upon Artemis bathing with her nymphs; unwilling to let a mortal live having seen her unclothed, she turns him into a stag on the spot.
