The Upper Air
Aether is the luminous upper air breathed by the gods, distinct from the ordinary air of the mortal world below. His parentage is one of the stranger details in Hesiod's genealogy: he is the son of Erebus and Nyx, Darkness and Night, making brightness the child of two of the dimmest beings in the cosmos.
