Queen of the Sea
Amphitrite is a Nereid, one of Nereus's fifty daughters, who becomes Poseidon's wife and, in effect, queen of the sea. Homer sometimes uses her name simply to mean the sea itself, a sign of how thoroughly she is identified with her husband's domain.
