Atalanta is left on a mountainside as an infant, considered worthless by a father who wanted a son, and survives anyway, nursed by a she-bear until hunters find her. She grows into the fastest runner and sharpest hunter in Greece, drawing first blood on the Calydonian Boar before any of the men in the party manage to land a hit.
