Diomedes is a young king among the Achaeans who, with Athena's direct favor, achieves something almost no other mortal manages in the entire war: wounding two gods in a single day. He strikes Aphrodite's wrist when she tries to rescue her son Aeneas, and later drives his spear into Ares himself, sending the war god fleeing back to Olympus in pain.
