The Loyal Swineherd
Eumaeus is Odysseus's loyal swineherd, himself a prince by birth who was stolen and sold into servitude as a child. Despite his reduced circumstances, he remains fiercely devoted to his absent master, welcoming the disguised Odysseus into his hut and defending Odysseus's memory to the stranger's own face without knowing who he truly is.
