Cunning Wisdom
Metis is cunning wisdom itself, an Oceanid so intelligent that Hesiod calls her wiser than any god or mortal. She becomes Zeus's first wife, and almost immediately a problem for him: Gaia warns that her second child by Zeus will overthrow him, just as he overthrew his own father.
