Paris is a son of Priam and Hecuba, exposed as an infant after a prophecy warns he will destroy Troy, and raised instead as a shepherd, unaware of his royal birth. He later judges a beauty contest among three goddesses, choosing Aphrodite after she promises him the most beautiful woman alive: Helen, already married to Menelaus.
