Tutor of Achilles
Phoenix is an old companion of Peleus who becomes tutor and near-father to the young Achilles, fleeing his own household to find refuge there. When the embassy is sent to win Achilles back to the fighting, Phoenix speaks last and most personally, appealing not to duty or gifts but to the bond between them.
