The King Who Outwitted Death Twice
Sisyphus is king of Corinth, grandfather of Bellerophon, and by general reputation the cleverest man alive, which he treats less as a gift than as a license. He tells the river god Asopus which of the gods carried off his daughter, informing on Zeus for a fee, and when Thanatos comes to collect him for it, Sisyphus tricks Death into demonstrating his own chains, then simply leaves him bound.
