The Hesperides

The Nymphs of the Sunset

The Hesperides are nymphs of the far west, keepers of a garden holding a tree of golden apples, a wedding gift from Gaia to Hera. Hesiod counts them among Night's fatherless children; later tradition makes them daughters of Atlas instead, singing at the edge of the world their father holds up.
