King of Crete
Minos is king of Crete, remembered both for the order he imposes while alive and for the darker household he keeps: the Minotaur, hidden in the labyrinth beneath his own palace. His daughter Ariadne grows up in that palace and eventually helps a stranger, Theseus, defeat the creature her father has spent years concealing.
