Best of the Achaeans
Achilles is the greatest warrior at Troy, son of the mortal Peleus and the sea-nymph Thetis, raised knowing that his own choice is between a short, glorious life and a long, forgotten one. Nearly the whole Iliad turns on a single quarrel: stripped of his prize Briseis by Agamemnon, Achilles withdraws from the war entirely, and the Achaeans suffer badly without him.
