Aeneas is a Trojan prince, son of Aphrodite and the mortal Anchises, who survives the war through what feels like deliberate divine protection: pulled from combat with Achilles by Poseidon, and carried off the field entirely when wounded by Diomedes, saved each time by his own mother.
