Foam-Risen
Aphrodite's origin is one of the most openly contested points in the whole system. In Hesiod, she rises from sea foam gathered around Uranus's severed flesh after Cronus's castration of him, stepping ashore on Cyprus. In Homer, there is no foam and no castration at all: she is simply Zeus's daughter by Dione.
