Atreus

King of Mycenae

Atreus is Pelops's son, and rival to his brother Thyestes over the throne of Mycenae, a rivalry sharpened further after Thyestes seduces his wife Aerope and takes the golden lamb that decides who rules. Atreus's response is the most notorious act in the whole family's history: he fakes reconciliation, kills Thyestes's own sons, and serves them to their father at a banquet.
