Pelops is a prince whose own myth begins with horror: his father serves him to the gods at a banquet, and the gods restore him to life afterward, missing only a shoulder replaced with ivory. He later wins his bride through a chariot race rigged against her father, a victory built on sabotage rather than fair competition.
