Thyestes is Atreus's brother and rival for the throne of Mycenae, whose affair with Aerope and theft of the golden lamb sets off one of the family's darkest cycles of revenge. Atreus's response, tricking him into eating his own children at a feast, is horror on a scale even this family rarely matches.
