The Shy Pleiad
Maia is the eldest of the seven Pleiades, daughters of Atlas, who withdraws to a quiet cave on Mount Cyllene specifically to avoid the company of gods. Zeus finds her there anyway, visiting while Hera sleeps, and Maia bears him a son whose first day of life becomes one of the most remarkable in Greek myth.
