Oedipus

The One Who Answered the Riddle

Oedipus is raised in Corinth believing himself the son of its king, until an oracle's warning — that he will kill his father and marry his mother — drives him to flee the only parents he knows, straight toward the ones he doesn't. He kills a stranger at a crossroads, then frees Thebes from the Sphinx by answering her riddle, and is given the recently widowed queen's hand as a reward for it.
