The Two-Headed Hound
Orthrus is a two-headed hound, firstborn of Typhon and Echidna, set to guard the cattle of the giant Geryon far in the west. He is less famous than his brother Cerberus, but no less monstrous in his own household: with an unnamed mother figure, he fathers both the Sphinx and the Nemean Lion, though which of his monstrous relatives actually bore them is disputed in the sources themselves.
